On July 3, 2016, Peking University welcomed a large number of students from numerous countries and areas around the world, commencing the Peking University Summer School International (PKUSSI) 2016.

With the systematic organization of the Office of International Relations, registration and orientation for international students went smoothly. In the morning of July 3, students arrived at the New Sun Student Center to collect their student IDs, school maps, and school calendars. This year, the summer school program has 241 students, whose demography consists of: 30 students from NAHSS (Netherlands-Asia Honours Summer School), 41 from the Hong Kong Ten Thousand Talent Program, 8 from CEISS (China Europe International Summer School), 25 from IARU (International Alliance of Research Universities), 10 from King’s College London, 5 from Ecolé de Louvre, 5 from University of Reading, 6 from Nanyang Technological University, and10 from National University of Singapore.

In the afternoon, the summer school program students participated in an orientation held in the Science Teaching Building, Room 207, which was their “first class at Peking University”. During the course of one hour, students began to familiarize themselves with the life and studies in Peking University through an introduction given by the host and program assistants. After orientation, the program assistants guided students through the school campus to help get familiar with their new surroundings.

In the following month, besides taking courses taught in both Chinese and English, students are also offered numerous opportunities to get familiar with Chinese culture via a series of activities, outings, and sightseeing tours organized by PKUSSI. The program is designed so that students gain both from their academic lives and cultural explorations at Peking University.
