Nanyang Technological University Delegation Visits PKU

On March 10, 2016, Bertil Andersson, President of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU) and the delegation visited Peking University (PKU). Zhu Shanlu, Chairman of the Peking University Council; Gao Song, Vice President and Provost of PKU; Li Xiaoming, Vice Provost of PKU along with other faculty members received the guests at the General Office and the West Hall of Linhuxuan.

Chairman Zhu began the discussion by sincerely welcoming the delegation, and he spoke highly of the achievements accomplished by both sides in the fields of academic and scientific research, especially in the newly established PKU-NTU Joint Research Institute (JRI), which was sponsored by the Huang Tingfang Charity Foundation.

Continuing, Chairman Zhu also expressed his gratitude to President Andersson’s long-lasting support of cooperation between the two universities and his desire to enhance faculty exchanges and expand the scale of student exchanges, and he suggested that PKU and NTU could enhance collaboration in the fields of sustainable development, education, electronics engineering and computer science, medical care and health, among other fields. President Andersson also wants future collaboration between PKU and NTU, and he said that more Singaporean students should be encouraged to come to China and study at PKU.

President Andersson thanked Chairman Zhu for his warm greeting, indicating that it was his third visit to PKU. As an internationally celebrated botanist and chemist, he expressed his sincere congratulation and respect to the PKU alumni Tu Youyou on winning the Nobel Prize. Since President Andersson is a former member of the board of directors of the Nobel Foundation, Chairman Zhu expressed his hope that President Andersson could help strengthen the communication between PKU and the Nobel Foundation.
 
After the meeting, the delegation of NTU had a discussion with scholars from the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, PKU. In the afternoon of March 10, the NTU delegation visited the Biodynamic Optical Imaging Center of Peking University, the College of Contemporary Agronomy, and Deng Xingwang’s Laboratory.
