The delegation from Chile was represented by Denise Pascal Allende, second Vice-President of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile; Giorgio Solimano Cantuarias, former chair of the Public Health Department at the University of Chile; Maya Fernandez Allende, member of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile; and Tomas Monsalve Egaña, chair of the Economics Department.

During the meeting, Mr. Cantuarias provided a brief introduction of the University of Chile to the PKU delegation. In his introduction, Mr. Cantuarias talked about a wide range of degrees offered by the university and also identified that recent projects have mostly focused on social problems, management of water and energy resources, IT sphere, and crisis prevention. He mentioned that just as PKU is a top school in China, the University of Chile is a top university in his country.  Moreover, in the alliance of 18 prestigious Chilean universities, the Chancellor of the University of Chile holds the venerable president’s position. After Mr. Cantuarias’s presentation, Ms. Denise Allende also expressed her hope for future cooperation.

PKU Vice-President Li Yansong acknowledged that currently there are considerably fewer exchange programs between Chinese and Chilean universities than those with the US and the UK. He agreed that more Chinese students should be able to go to the University of Chile. Meanwhile, Chilean students should have an opportunity to enroll in programs at PKU.

The delegations exchanged gifts and discussed the upcoming forum on China-Chile cooperation, which may present a good opportunity for further interactions between the universities, and hopefully, lead to new agreements.
