In the morning of December 11, 2015, Junichi Mori, Vice President of Kyoto University, visited Peking University (PKU) for the Kyoto University-Peking University Academic Exchange Day. He was companied by a delegation of 8 professors.
The group of professors was warmly welcomed by Li Yansong, Vice President of PKU; He Jin, Professor and Deputy Director of the Department of History; Sun Junliang, Associate Professor of the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering; and Zheng Ruqing, Deputy Director of Office of International Relations.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Mori first expressed his gratitude towards Mr. Li and PKU. He also mentioned that student exchange programs should be given more attention, and he said that there is a growing number of students in Kyoto University longing for further studies in China. Mr. Li strongly supported the proposal.
Then Mr. Mori introduced Kensuke Nedachi, an expert on the history of Japanese art. Professor Nedachi hoped the two universities could have more cooperation in the research of East Asia art. Mr. Li was interested in the idea, and he also mentioned the PKU manga club as to show students’ passion towards Japanese culture. After that, Professor Kazu Nagai stated that he had been researching the history of the Sino-Japanese wars. Therefore, he desired to get closer contact with PKU to obtain more relevant information.
After the meeting, Mr. Li led the delegation from Kyoto University to Peking University Chaitai International Center for lunch.
In the afternoon, four lectures were held by Professors Kitagawa, Nedachi, Nagai, and Nakagawa. The topics were “Chemistry of New Porous materials-Porous Coordination Polymers/Metal-Organic Frameworks”, “Effects of China on Japanese art”, “From the war between Japan and China to the world war”, and “Effect of feeder-free culture system for quality of human iPS cells”.
