On October 23, 2015, Mezey Barna, President of Lorand Eotvos University, visited Peking University(PKU), accompanied by Imre Hamer. Gao Song, vice president of Peking University, extended a warm welcome to the guests at Linhuxuan.
During the discussion, President Barna noted the high reputation and profound academic accumulation of both universities, and expressed the expectation of further cooperation on the basis of the existing exchange programs with School of Archaeology and Museology and School of Philosophy.
“Lorand Eotvos University hopes to cooperate with PKU in terms of the Chinese language and other knowledge fields”, President Barna said, “Both PKU and Lorand Eotvos University have affiliated secondary schools, where the relations could also be built.”
President Barna also added that achievements of Chinese researches in Lorand Eotvos University are optimistic. Apart from the Confucius Institute, Lorand Eotvos University has built the Chinese Language Research Center, where relevant training on Chinese are in progress.
President Gao gave a brief introduction on schools and departments of PKU. Speaking of internationalization, he attached great importance to Yenching Academy, which recruited about seventy foreign students the first year, making up seventy percent of the total. President Barna responded that courses related to Chinese culture would also be added in Lorand Eotvos University to broaden students’ horizon.
At the closing of the discussion, President Gao showed strong anticipation of substantive cooperation with Lorand Eotvos University. Meanwhile, President Barna promised that professors from Lorand Eotvos University would pay more visits to PKU.
More detailed discussions between the two universities are expected to take place in the near future.
