2015-10-26 11:34:28

On the evening of October 19, 2015, the 10th annual Peking University (PKU) Idol International Singing Competition was held at Centennial Memorial Hall. This annual event is a PKU traditional event that showcases PKU’s best voice every year. After two rounds of elimination, ten outstanding singers earned the right as finalists to the contest and today, they shall vie for the crown.

\

The final was divided into three rounds. The first was the solo round with where the contestants will each sing a song and would be ranked according to their performance. The top six contestants would have the chance to enter the second round, whereby they would be paired up and pitted against each other for a one-on-one battle. The singer with the higher number of votes will enter the third round and they will vie for the first, second and third spot.

\

The highly anticipated evening was kicked off with a well-known Chinese song “At least you(至少还有你)” sung by Liu Pei Pei, a Malaysian Student. This was followed up by Saul Stollery’s “She Will Be Loved”, who took the audience with surprise with his impressive stage presence and exotic voice. The round was finished off with Miri’s sexy interpretation of “Toxic.”

\

This is traditionally one of the most keenly contested music competitions of the year and this time  was no exception. After a round of fierce competition, Saul Stolley, Anke and his band, Taro, Weng Yuxiang, Sing Song and Miri advanced to the final round.

\

The second round was a wondrous surprise as contestants put on a dazzling performance that thrilled the audiences. Miri once again took the show with her powerful “My Sky (我的天空), while Taro offered a strong showing that was hailed by the jury as well as the audience with his “Silence (安静)”. The second group is a fierce competition between “Sing Song” (international students’ acapella group) and Anke and his band, while Saul and Weng Yuxiang finishes off the round with their heartbreakingly beautiful performances.

\

Saul put on a truly marvellous performance that forced an already enthusiastic audience to almost leave their seat, while Anke once again charmed the audience and the judges with his suave performance. Music genius (titled by the judges) Miri brought to us once again her favourite song “Typhoon (龙卷风)” and her fabulous performance made her the winner of PKU Idol International Students Singing Contest 2015.

The “Best Stage Effect” award was awarded to a bashful Taro, while the “Best Appearance” and were presented to the duo Wu Zhenwei and Sato Rei, “Best Arrangement” and “Best Creativity” awards was won by the Acapella group Sing Song and French hunk Julian respectively.

The competition came to a perfect conclusion with the award distribution ceremony followed by a group photo session with the judges and the contestants. It was definitely a night to be remembered and the finalists deserves a good pat on the back for the marvellous performance they put on today.
