University of Limerick’s Vice-President Visits PKU

On October 21, 2015, Mary Shire, Vice-President of University of Limerick (UL), along with Lisa Pan, the Director of the Chinese Office of UL, visited Peking University (PKU). Wang Jie, Vice President of PKU, accompany with Yang Lingchun, Assistant to the Director, Office of Scientific Research, Li Weiping, Assistant to the Dean, School of Software and Microelectronics, Li Yun, Deputy Chief, Division for Exchange Affairs, Office of International Relations and Huang Tao, Program Officer, Division for Exchange Affairs, Office of International Relations, met the guests at Linhuxuan.

Vice President Wang warmly welcomed the delegation from UL, and proposed that the basic goal of this first visit from UL to PKU would be “focused on interactions on teaching and researching.”
 
Ms. Shire first gave a brief introduction about the career preparation training for undergraduates, research programs and collaborations with large software companies including TOP 10 ones in the world. Then Ms. Pan introduced the history, faculties and institutes in UL, compared the similarities between UL and PKU, during which she especially mentioned the circumstances of Health Search Center in both universities. She also extended an sincere invitation to Mr. Wang for visiting UL and Ireland during her speech. 
 
Then Li Yun, Deputy Chief, Division for Exchange Affairs, Office of International Relations, discussed the possibility of promoting the student-exchange between the two universities. Ms. Li listed the previous collaborations with European universities. Considering the fact that PKU had no such ties with the Ireland universities before, she expressed the willingness of building relationships in certain faculties like software, engineering and medical science.
 
According to Ms. Pan, Irish government is currently providing financial support for such exchange programs. She is looking forward to more research collaborations with PKU, as she said “UL is trying expanding its international interactions with other universities.”Besides, University of Limerick also has tight collaborations globally with large companies in areas like life technology, digital technology etc.
 
Vice President Wang is strongly willing to promote student more interaction of both students and staff between both sides, and share more ideas and thoughts with University of Limerick at university level in the future.     
After the meeting, the delegation went on a short tour in the campus and then visited PKU Health Science Centre (HSC), where they discussed the collaborations in medical science with HSCs in represent.
