On June 16, 2015, the Council on International Educational Exchange’s (CIEE) summer program opening ceremony was held in the School of Chinese as a Second Language (SCSL). Chad Futrell, Director of CIEE, and Zhao Yang, Dean of SCSL, attended the ceremony.
Mr. Zhao first extended his warmest welcome to the students. He shared some interesting campus stories and offered useful advice on living in Beijing. Speaking highly of international students for their fluent mandarin, Mr. Zhao encouraged them to study harder and quoted Laozi: “A thousand mile journey begins with a single step”.
Mr. Futrell thanked Mr. Zhao and Office of International Relations for their support for the program. At the same time, he encouraged students to make full use of PKU’s resources to better understand Chinese traditions and culture.
Each year, the CIEE Summer Program attracts a lot of international students, and this year is no different. Many international students have come to Peking University (PKU) with curiosity in their hearts to explore PKU and China. After the Chinese placement test, students took a group photo in front of the New Sun Student Center and attended the opening ceremony at SCSL.
