On April 23, 2015, Dr. Kyu Sang Chung, President of Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) led a delegation to visit Peking University (PKU). Lin Jianhua, President of PKU, Li Yansong, Vice President of PKU, Chi Huisheng, Former Executive Vice President, and Wang Dan, Director of the Department of Korean Language and Culture received the guests at Linhuxuan. Both sides enjoyed a fruitful discussion on cooperation in various areas.
President Lin first extended a warm welcome to Dr. Kyu Sang Chung, President of SKKU and his delegation. He noted that SKKU and PKU have had a long history of cooperation. President Lin said that as international education reforms and improves in many areas, there will be a great need for coordinated action among universities instead of through individual attempts.
According to Dr. Kyu Sang Chung, PKU has paid great attention to collaboration with SKKU, and he expressed the hope of extending further cooperation, especially in chemistry, law, and in academic forums. Then, he made a brief introduction of the MBA program at SKKU, Korea’s first fully English-taught Global MBA program, which has gained tremendous international recognition and ranked around 50th by the Financial Times.
President Lin stated that PKU would provide strong support for those collaborative designs, and that he also looked forward to the cooperation in information science and technology. Since Samsung took up its partnership in 1996, SKKU has acquired its own advantages through its cooperation with Samsung.
Towards the end of the discussion, both sides agreed to build a stronger relationship and make a preliminary decision on an academic forum in 2015 and President Lin’s visit in 2016. After the meeting, the leaders of two universities exchanged souvenirs and took photos.
