On March 16th, a delegation of the King Abdulaziz Public Library visited Peking University (PKU). His Excellency Mr. Yahya A Alzaid, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to China, Mr. Riyad A. H. Al Mubaraki, counselor, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Embassy in China, Dr. Abdulkareem A. Al-Zaid, deputy director of King Abdulaziz Public Library, Lin Jianhua, president of PKU, Li Yansong, vice president of PKU, Zhu Qiang, chief librarian of the Peking University Library, Professor Fu Zhiming, deputy dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Lu Zhongxing, head of the Office of Legal Advisors of PKU and Zhou Manli from the Office of International Relations attended the meeting. Mr. Alshihry, Mr. Dalaan and Pan Xiaohan were also present at the meeting.
President Lin Jianhua first extended a warm welcome to all of the guests. Then His Excellency Yahya A Alzaid talked about the King Abdulaziz Public Library PKU Branch project. He said this project could be traced back to 2009 when President Hu Jintao of China visited Saudi Arabia. This project has been promoted by both sides over the past five years and today they were going to confirm the details of the library construction.
President Lin said there were still many obstacles for the project but that they were confident about the future of this project. H.E. Yahya A Alzaid said what we were doing here was making a great contribution to both countries and would have a long-lasting influence.
Both sides were proud to be part of the project and were sure that it would be of great benefit in the long term.
