Delegation of Indiana University Visits Peking University

On May 17th, 2015, a delegation from Indiana University visited Peking University (PKU), and it was received in the Luce Pavilion. Michael McRobbie, president of Indiana University, Shawn Reynolds, assistant vice president of Indiana University, Gao Song, vice president of PKU, Chen Dongmin, dean of the Office of Science and Technology Development of PKU and Yuan Ruijun, dean of the Center for Civil Society Studies of PKU engaged in talks concerning further cooperation between two the universities. Yin Jia, dean of the China Office of Indiana University, Zhang Ran, teacher in Graduate School of Education and an alumna of Indiana University were also present.

First of all, vice president Gao extended a warm welcome to president McRobbie. With regard to bilateral collaboration, President McRobbie mentioned that Indiana University established global international studies a few years ago and had assembled many prominent scholars. “We are holding a conference in PKU and it is co-organized by Prof. Zan Tao from PKU and one from Indiana University. We will have an extensive discussion at the conference,” added president McRobbie, “That will set an example for our bilateral cooperation.”

President McRobbie noted that Indiana University had opened more language courses, which includes Chinese culture courses. Vice President Gao said that PKU was using Coursera and edX as platforms and to give students access to more English courses.

At the end of the meeting, Jin Man, dean of the Academy of Opera of PKU, proposed to hold a concert with Indiana University in memory of the 70th anniversary of the victory of Anti-fascist War involving England, Korea and the United States as well.
