Science In Dialogue Successfully Held in PKU

On November 26th, 2014, Science in Dialogue was successfully held in the Sunlight Hall, Ying Jie Exchange Center, Peking University. This fruitful event saw cooperation between PKU and the University of Helsinki, an exhibition of Finnish scientific achievements, and a forum covering law and order along with environmental and educational issues.

Zhu Shanlu, Chairman of Peking University Council, Jukka Kola, President of University of Helsinki and the Finnish ambassador to China attended the opening ceremony. Zhu Shanlu and Jukka Kola both delivered speeches. Zhu Shanlu first expressed his gratitude to Jukka Kola for Helsinki’s hospitability and considerable arrangement during his visit to the University of Helsinki in January; he then extended a warm welcome to the delegation from the University of Helsinki.

“Aimed at exhibiting Finnish achievements in a variety of areas, this event provides us with a precious opportunity to get a better understanding of Finland,” Zhu Shanlu noted. He also pointed out that the University of Helsinki was one of the closest partners and PKU planed to deepen its cooperation with Helsinki. He highly valued this educational activity, pointing out that it was big advance in collaboration, strengthening their communication and understanding.

During Jukka Kola’s speech, he listed what he had learned through the cooperation with Peking University. He was glad to see that the educational cooperation had been pushed forward. He attached great importance to trust, believing that mutual trust would make cooperation more flexible and efficient.

After the opening ceremony, Professor Hannele Niemi from the University of Helsinki and professor Jia Ji from PKU made their report under the title of “future study”. Professor Kimmo Nuotio, Professor Li Ming, Professor Maekku Kulmala and Professor Hu Min also gave their reports. In their reports, the professors presented their research results, and provided their analysis from different perspectives. They all looked forward to a further cooperation.
