Russian Ambassador to China Andrey Denisov Visits PKU

On October 31st, 2014, Andrey Denisov, Russian Ambassador to China, visited Peking University (PKU). Yu Hongjun, Vice Chair of the PKU Council, Prof. Liu Shusen, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, PKU, Prof. Wang Xinyi, Director of the Department of Russian Languages and Linguistics, Dr. Zheng Ruqing, Deputy Director of Office of International Relations received Andrey Denisov at Linhuxuan.

Yu Hongjun first expressed his warm welcome to Mr. Denisov. He said, as 2014 is the China-Russia Youth Friendly Exchanges Year and “youth is the future”, PKU will continue its endeavors to the Sino-Russian cooperation, especially in the field of youth education and communication. PKU maintained close relationship with top Russian universities such as Moscow State University and St. Petersburg State University and it is PKU’s hope to deepen and broaden this cooperation.

Mr. Denisov, who had lived and worked in Beijing forty years ago, said he was happy to work in Beijing again, which was like his “second hometown”. Mr. Denisov expressed his wish to further enhance the cooperation between China and Russia during his tenure. In the field of higher education, he mentioned Kazan Federal University and Far Eastern Federal University, as the possible counterparts for PKU’s consideration of exploring collaboration with, apart from the partnerships that PKU had already established in Russia.
 
After the meeting, Mr. Denisov gave an enlightening lecture to PKU students on the topic of “The Development of Contemporary Russian-China Relations”.
