President of University of Calgary Visits PKU

On the morning of October 22rd, Elizabeth Cannon, President of University of Calgary, paid a visit to Peking University (PKU), along with Dr. Ed McCauley, Vice President of University of Calgary, and Dr. Ruwanpura, Vice Provost of University of Calgary. Li Yansong, Vice President of PKU received the guests at Linhuxuan and talked over future cooperation between the two universities, accompanied by Zhang Dongxiao, Dean of the College of Engineering, PKU,  and Zhou Hui,  Director of the Office of Scientific Research, PKU.

First, Dr. Ed McCauley, Vice President of University of Calgary, gave a brief introduction of the fruitful results University of Calgary had achieved in clean energy innovation, research on brain and mental health, and space physics.

Besides, President Elizabeth Cannon said that University of Calgary had put a lot of efforts into energy research, where 1.25 million US dollars had been used to fund students and researchers in University of Calgary, and to facilitate communication with Chinese universities. She thought that it was amazing that China, a country with such vast territory and large population, can do well in the management of energy resources, and it was possible to explore energy issues based on different national conditions of the two countries through cooperation.

Vice President Li Yansong, talked about the cooperation programs conducted with several Canadian universities, and their operating mechanism and management, which may provide guidance for the cooperation with University of Calgary.

President Elizabeth Cannon expressed that University of Calgary had cooperation intentions with PKU, especially in the areas of brain and mental health, discussing how to share achievements of scientific research.
