Vice President Wang Jie first extended warm welcome for the arrival of Professor Dr. Pavel Kabat. Professor Dr. Pavel Kabat extended thanks for the outstanding contributions made by Vice President Wang Jie to facilitate communication in scientific research between European countries and China, and conferred a Merit Scholar Diploma for him on behalf of IIASA.
Then Vice President Wang Jie talked about efforts made by PKU to attain sustainable development, and said that PKU expected to carry out further cooperation with IIASA so as to find effective solutions in this aspect.

Professor Dr. Pavel Kabat noted that as an important research center of China, PKU had yielded high quality research concerning economic, social and population problems. IIASA is planning to find 3 to 4 colleges and universities as partners, along with higher education institutions and research institutions in Japan and Korea, to start a new round of cooperation in environmental changes and air pollution. He hoped that these problems could be effectively addressed through working hand in hand with PKU.
