On the morning of May 15th, João Silva, President of Portugal University of Coimbra, visited Peking University (PKU), along with Vice President Carvalho, Wei Dan, Chairman of the Alumni Association in Macao, and advisor Zhang Dongsheng.
Vice President of PKU Li Yansong received the delegation at Linhuxuna, accompanied by Min Xuefei and Zhang Yunfeng, teachers from the Department of Portuguese at PKU. During the meeting, Vice President Li Yansong introduced the overall situation of PKU. He said that as one of the fist class comprehensive universities in China, PKU not only boosted rich cultural deposit, but also a university that saw all of its subjects developing in an all round manner and enjoyed remarkable achievements.
Then Min Feixue introduced to the guests the Department of Portuguese at PKU, whose missions are not merely teaching the language of Portugal, but let students grasp a comprehensive understanding of culture, history and literature of Portuguese speaking countries.
Both Min Xuefei and Zhang Yunfeng expressed wish to cooperate with Portugal University of Coimbra, and cooperative fields should not confine to literature and linguistics but involve other disciplines such as law.
President João Silva said that this visit to PKU aimed at pushing ahead collaboration and communication with China’s top universities. Both sides also explored the possibility of joint training and short-term exchange programs.
