President of Monash University Visits PKU

On the afternoon of May 16th, President of Monash University Ed Byrne visited Pkeing University (PKU). Vice president of Peking University Li Yansong received the guests at Linhuxuan, accompanying with Sun Qiudan, Director of the Office of International Cooperation, PKU Health and Science Center. Both parties held talks concerning the ways to deepen collaboration between Monash University and Pkeing University, and the development of a university under the global context.

 

Vice president Li Yansong first extended warm welcome for the arrival of Mr. Ed Byrne, and said that PKU has established close links with many colleges and universities in Australia. Besides, he noted that both universities still can tap the potential of cooperation in the areas such as laws, communications and journalism, and pharmaceutics.

 

President Ed Byrne thanked PKU’s gracious reception. He said that Monash University is currently exploring issues concerning the well-being of the mankind such as water shortages, health of mankind, environment pollution. He believed that communication among universities plays an important part in a university’s development, which should also be a vital aspect for international cooperation.

Then President Ed Byrne went to PKU Graduate School of Education and delivered a speech entitled “Transformation of Universities: Information Revolution, Globalization and the Rise of Asia”. During his speech, he said that information revolution had brought mangy changes to higher education. For example, MOOC enables people around the world to listen to the lectures of renounced scholars and education resources of different universities are touchable and sharable across the globe.
