Vice President of Stanford University Visits PKU

On May 5th 2014, David Demarest, Vice President of Stanford University, attended the International Forum on the Nourishment of Innovative Talents and the launching ceremony of Yenching Academy held at Yingjie Exchange Centre.

 

On the next day, David Demarest, accompanied by Andrew Andreasen, Executive Director of Stanford Center at PKU, was cordially received by Vice Present Li Yansong.

Mr. Demarest first congratulated Vice President Li on the success of the launching ceremony of Peking University Yenching Academy. The two parties reviewed past cooperation and discussed about the details of future collaboration under the framework of Yenching Academy. Professor Li Yansong introduced, by showing the old pictures of Yenching University campus, to Mr. Demarest the history and significance of Yenching University whose arts and science faculties were merged into Peking University.


 

Mr. Demarest, in return, expressed confidence in the significant role that Yenching Academy will play in spreading to students from all over the world the long history and profound culture as well as real-time development of China.


 

Professor Li Yansong expressed wishes that Stanford would recommend excellent undergraduate students to study in the first session of the one-year M.A. Program in Chinese studies of Yenching Academy in the fall of 2015. Mr. Demarest said that there would be in-depth academic cooperation between the two institutions in the form of joint research programs and faculty exchange.
