Delegation of the University of Melbourne Visits PKU

Glyn Davis, President of the University of Melbourne, led a delegation to visit Peking University (PKU) on April 1st, 2014. Vice President Simon Evans and Dean of the Department of Medicine James Best are members of the delegation. President of Peking University Wang Enge met the guests at Lin Huxuan, accompanied by Executive Vice President Ke Yang, Vice President Li Yansong and Director of Peking University Sixth Hospital Lu Lin. After the conference, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (in general) and a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of mental health (Department of Medicine).

At the beginning, Prof. Wang welcomes the Australian delegation and reviews the long-term cooperation between the two universities. Then he talked about the long history of PKU and its development philosophy, followed by highlighting more international collaboration to be carried out. In response, Davis says that in UNIMEL, more and more students begin to study Chinese culture and history, and even the children of some professors start to learn this time-honored language.



When it comes to the development of mental science and many daunting challenges, Prof. Davis pointed out that there exists good perspective of further cooperation between UNIMEL and PKU, and he also gave advice on how to deepen cooperation.

Vice President Ke Yang expressed heartfelt thanks for UNIMEL’s cooperation in the field of clinical mental science and neuroscience, in which such aspects as medical model of mental health and clinical medicine are covered. It has been the tenth year since the establishment of the cooperative partnership, and further cooperation in training, exchange program, policy proposals, academic exchanges and programs of visiting scholars should be carried out, as Prof. Ke pointed out.
