On the afternoon of April 24th, Mr.Chaturon Chaisang, Education Minister of Thailand, led a delegation and visited Peking University (PKU). Prof. Zhu Shanlu, Chairman of the PKU Council, met the guests in the office building, accompanied by Gao Song, Vice President of PKU, and Guan Haiting, Vice Provost of PKU.

During the meeting, Prof. Zhu Shanlu extended warm welcome for the arrival of Chaturon Chaisang. He said that education plays a pivotal role in talent cultivation, and Chaturon Chaisang’s visit offers an opportunity for educational cooperation between China and Thailand.  Not long ago, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of the Kingdom of Thailand visited PKU, and discussed with PKU leaders about cooperation between the two countries in the fields of education, science and technology.

Prof. Zhu Shanlu extended gratitude to Thai Ministry of Education for its gracious support for the Confucius Institute jointly established by Chulalongkorn University and PKU, and expected to deepen bilateral collaboration on this basis.

Then, Mr. Chaturon Chaisang also extended thanks for PKU’s warm reception. He noted that many Thai students are attracted to study at PKU by its great reputation, and Thailand has witnessed steady improvement in the quality of Chinese language teaching. Besides, he is very concerned with the idea to encourage more science students of Thailand to pursue overseas study at PKU through cutting down language barrier.

At the end, both sides also compared notes on issues with regard to education model, teaching methods and language learning.
