General Raymond Odierno, Chief of Staff of the US Army, visited Peking University (PKU) on the afternoon of Feb.21, 2014. Prof. Wang Enge, President of Peking University, met the guests at Lin Hu Xuan, accompanied by Prof. Jia Qingguo, Dean of the School of International Studies.

Prof. Wang Enge extended his warm welcome for the visit of General Raymond Odierno and gave a brief introduction to exchanges between Peking University and American universities. General Raymond Odierno extended thanks for Prof. Wang’s gracious reception and hoped to establish more ties with PKU.            

After the meeting, General Raymond Odierno had a discussion with students and faculty members of the School of International Studies at the West Hall of Lin Hu Xuan. First, Prof. Jia Qingguo gave a brief introduction of General Raymond Odierno’s personal experience. Then General Raymond Odierno shared his major responsibilities and professional experience in the US Army, and was very glad to have the chance to exchange ideas and enhance mutual understanding with PKU teachers and students.

In the following question-and-answer session, General Raymond Odierno also talked about international environment, military principles, China-US relations and regional hotspot issues. He stressed that the responsibility of future army should be acting as the connection among different parties, and military communication is one of the important aspects for the enhancement of exchanges between China and the US. Thus China and the US should promote vigorous dialogue and build mutual trust, which has profound significance upon the whole world.
