On May 11th, Jan Björkman, First Deputy Speaker of the Riksdag, Sweden led a delegation visited Peking University. Executive Vice President Wu Zhipan and Vice President Li Yansong received the guests at Linhuxuan.
Prof. Wu firstly extended his warmest welcome to the guests. He briefly introduced the history of Peking University as well as its education and research conditions and the current educational status of China. Prof. Wu mentioned that Peking University has a long history of 112 years and now has dozens of schools, departments and research centers with more than 32,000 students in total. With regard to international communication, Peking University has maintained stable cooperation with numerous universities in different parts of the world, including some Swedish universities, such as Stockholm University, Lund University and Uppsala University.
Mr. Björkman was introduced the application procedure for a student to enter PKU and also how PKU cultivates foreign students. Björkman said it was his first time to visit PKU and learned the educational and financial conditions in PKU.
During the meeting, Björkman asked the student representatives why they chose PKU, which received the students' active responses. The guests were even amused by one response that "PKU has the largest university library in Asia."
The meeting ended in a relaxed atmosphere. After the two sides exchanged the gifts, Björkman was showed around the campus.
