Richard N. Haass's speech primarily focused on the new world order and the relationship between China and America. In his speech, Haass drew special attention to the new world order, noting that he himself has always been wondering what new world orders are like and how to make it.

Haass's lecture was well attended.  Following his speech, he opened the floor to questions. Haass also thanked Peking University administrators and students for their "incredibly warm welcome."  In the discussion, he believes that the new world order doesn't mean there should be no disagreements or conflicts, and what we need to do is to break down all the disagreements and find a single aim to adapt in a constantly changing world.  As to how to break down the disagreements, Haass made references to learning from each other and adjusting occasionally to be adapted to other countries. He also listed some objective examples such as stopping spreading nuclear weapons and encouraging more countries to participate in the economic trades as their methods to create a new world order.
