President Zhou Qifeng and Prof. Hockfield briefly introduced PKU and MIT respectively, both believed that two universities have great collaboration potential in many fields, especially in engineering. “By your visit, we can strengthen our ties.” President Zhou Qifeng said.

By citing the example of collaboration with other universities in architecture, Dr. Susan Hockfield mentioned a joint exchange program aiming to share faculty appointments between MIT and PKU.
Later, the faculty representatives from PKU expressed their thoughts on cooperation. Dean Chen Shiyi said: “I am happy to explore the possibilities to collaborate with MIT”. “We hope to have more chances cooperating with MIT”. Professor Luo Dingsheng from the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science added. Vice Dean Xu Xinzhong also favored to send students abroad to universities like MIT.
Professor Philip Khoury, Vice Provost of MIT agreed to establish a stable cooperative relationship. “We have an ambitious plan, which is to quadruple the number of our faculties and students to China so as to expand their international horizon,” he emphasized.
It was learnt that PKU had enjoyed a good communication with MIT in the past few years. Back to September 2005, Zhang Yonghe, Director of PKU’s Graduate Center of Architecture, was invited to assume the Dean of Architecture, MIT. And during the second half of 2008, the two sides had paid several high-level exchanges and visits to each other.
