Peking University Library was built in 1975 and the New Library building in 1988. With 53,000 square meters and over 4,000 seats and a collection of over 7 million books, it is one of the largest university libraries in Asia. It provides a wealth of text resources and a variety of digital, modern services. To enter the library, users are required to swipe their campus card at the entrance or apply for a temporary book card.

Temporary Book Card

If you stay at PKU for less than 7 days (in which case you would not be eligible for a campus card), you may apply for a temporary book card to read books in the library. To apply for the card, you are required to take your passport and an introduction letter from your department. A fee of 3 RMB is charged for each day.

International faculty who would like to borrow books must activate their campus card in the Library Card Office and pay a deposit of 1000 RMB. You may borrow a maximum of 30 books. When leaving the university, be sure to return the borrowed books and get back your deposit from the library.

You may reserve and renew your books in person at the library or online (http://www.lib.pku.edu.cn). After logging into the account, you may reserve books, renew books and check the status of the books.

In addition, each department/school may have its own library. You may inquire from your department/school regarding its facilities and its regulations.
