“Friendship and Shared Destiny”: PKU International Faculty Club Visits the Central Gift and Cultural Relics Management Centre

September 28,2023

On September 22, Peking University International Faculty Club organized Chinese and foreign faculty members to visit the Central Gifts and Cultural Relics Management Centre to explore the "Friendly Exchanges, Destiny and Commons -- Gift Exhibition of Diplomatic Activities of Party and State Leaders", to appreciate the special historical value and rich humanistic connotation of diplomatic gifts and feel the profound friendship between the Chinese people and the people of the world.

Diplomatic gifts are an important carrier of friendly cultural exchange between countries. Exquisite porcelain, calligraphy works, paintings and handicrafts vividly bear witness to the friendly exchange and mutual learning between China and countries that have established diplomatic relations with China. International faculties from Peking University were immersed in the corridor of diplomatic history and culture, feeling cordial viewing cultural relics and gifts from their own countries, and were also amazed by the exquisite exhibits representing the cultures of various countries.

Assistant Professor Sean Tyson Heath from the United Kingdom said that this visit was a rare opportunity to learn the diplomatic history of modern China from the stories behind many cultural relics. Ms.Nina Stroganova from Russia was very happy to have a deeper understanding of China's diplomatic culture and history, appreciate folk art works from all over the world, and make new friends. Mr. Sayyed from Iran also thought it was a very interesting event, showing China's great power diplomacy and efforts made to maintain world peace and development, and hoped that his country could engage in more cultural exchange activities with China.

As the saying goes, "Like-minded people are never far apart, despite the distance." We believe in fostering strong connections and promoting mutual understanding among individuals from different cultures. Peking University International Faculty Club aims to continuously provide our international faculty members with a diverse and enriching cultural experience. We will also strive to create an interactive platform to promote cultural exchange between China and foreign countries.
