In the evening of October 15, 2015, Delegation from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) visited Peking University (PKU), and held a Campus Talk at the Natural Science Classroom Building.
Prof. James Calvin, Vice President of Academic Affairs, first gave a general introduction about KAUST, which includes a campus full view, specific academic programs, previous research achievements, multi-lateral international collaboration, and advanced scientific facilities etc. He further addressed his speech by presenting a glimpse of life at KAUST. “Do not come to KAUST to play golf, come to become famous”, said Prof. Calvin as he encouraged the students of PKU. In the end of his speech, Prof. James Calvin explained KAUST’s admission process and extended a sincere invitation to all PKU students.
Then, Prof. Mani Sarathy from Clean Combustion Center, and Prof. Xin Gao, from College of Computer Science, shared their experience of scientific research and currently on-going projects in KAUST, which they defined as “Fun and useful”. In addition, both professors recalled their past stories of becoming scientists as well as choosing KAUST.
One of the Chinese KAUST graduates also told her story, and especially mentioned the cross-cultural communication and unique Arabian culture as a “great bonus” for attending KAUST. She expressed her sincere gratitude to the university for its genuine dedication of providing the best resources and opportunities for all of its students.
A lucky draw was pulled near the end of the Campus Talk, during which a student got a iWatch as the present. Students of PKU were deeply attracted by the speeches and the Campus Talk finally ended in a warm round of applause.
