Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokova visits Peking University

On the morning of May 19th, Irina Bokova, Director General of UNESCO visited Peking University. Tang Qian, Assistant Director-General for Education UNESCO and Hans d’Orville,Bureau Chief of Strategic Planning UNESCO, etc also joined the visit. Executive Vice President Lin Jianhua, Professor Cheng Xu, School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science and Director of MPRC(Micro Processor Research and Development Center) and Mr. Xia Hongwei, Executive Deputy Director of Office of International Relations received the guests.

Accompanied by Executive Vice President Lin, Ms Bokova visited MPRC. Professor Cheng introduced the idea and goal of MPRC to the guests in detail. The center aims to research on safe, low-cost and competitive computers with self-developed microprocessor and System-on-a-Chip and build a complete industrial chain connecting researches, development, manufacture, marketing and service. The ultimate goal of the center is to provide safe and convenient computers for people in underdeveloped regions of China, who work in the field of education, electronics, politics and private information processing, etc. Then ,Cheng showed the research products of the center to Bokova, including “Super K Plan”, safe micro work station and 3C innovative consumer electronics, etc. He pointed out that these products reflect the core idea of independent research, low cost, low energy consumption of the center.

After listening to the introduction, Bokova showed great interests in the products of the center and the staff’s work performances, which she highly recognized and warmly encouraged. She also wrote down some wishes for the center, hoping that MPRC could keep innovating and achieving to provide more technological supports for the underdeveloped areas.
