A Bite of Culture: The International Faculty Club’s Chinese Culinary Party

On November 20,2015, 18 members from the International Faculty Club attended the Chinese Culinary Party. The international teachers had the opportunity to know more about Chinese culinary culture by tasting food, watching a documentary, and listening to the introduction given by volunteers.

At 2 PM, the foreign teachers watched the A Bite of Peking University documentary made by PKU students. In the 6 minutes and 48 seconds film in English video clips, a lot of food on PKU campus was on display. The aestheticism, lines full of literature and art is very appealing to the participants. It takes beautiful course, with the wind blowing leaves, lazy cat on the ground in the sunshine, there is quite a metamorphosis multiple things turning out. Film camera use is more exquisite. There are multiple uses of slow motions and static pictures for a long time. The participants are very interested in the documentary.

After the routine Chinese language learning, the most exciting part,a gourmet taste of Chinese Traditional Snacks begins. Volunteers carefully prepared the lvdagun, eight-treasure rice pudding, roasted baozi, spring rolls, dumplings and other Chinese snack. There arealso snow-pear porridge, red jujube yam gruel, pumpkin porridge and other rich variety of porridge.Taking the form of a buffet, everybody help himself in the pleasant communication and the experience of the Chinese traditional food.

Last but not the least, a student volunteer from Guanghua School of Management ,2014 undergraduate Christina Tian introduced the Chinese dietaty culture. She introduced the Shandong cuisine, Sichuan cuisine, Cantonese cuisine, Hunan cuisine, Fujian cuisine, Zhejiang cuisine, Zhejiang cuisine, Anhui cuisine, eight big cuisines. Each cuisine has typical dishes, also represents a typical regional culture.

Everyone had fun in a relaxed and happy communication and taste. A foreign teacher said "hope there will be more such cultural experience activities".Culture is supposed to be living. It is the accumulation of details in life. The International Faculty Club hopes to offer you as many windows as possible, through which you can see different aspects of Chinese culture.
 
Background Introduction
The International Faculty Club is hosted by the Office of International Relations, Peking University. You are working at different departments. You may not have much chance to get to know each other. So the first intention of our Club is to provide you an opportunity to get to know each other and exchange ideas. Here, you may find people from your country or even your region. You may also find scholars from different places who do research in the same field as you do. So we hope this salon would enrich your leisure time and at the same time, become a link for your communication.
